The Palm Treo Pro is official as of today, as Palm debut their latest Windows Mobile Professional device. Online leaks of the device caused mixed feelings last week.
Palm Treo Pro will sport the company trademark square touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. All four GSM and three UMTS bands are covered, which makes the phone good for worldwide roaming. HSDPA is also on board to boost data transfer speed over 3G networks.
The Palm Treo Pro runs on Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 and is be powered by a 400 MHZ Qualcomm CPU. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity are all on board, and so is a microSD card slot handling cards up to 32 GB (when those are one day available, of course). Some of the other features of the new Treo include built-in GPS, a 2 megapixel camera and a 3.5mm standard audio jack.
The amount of user memory on the Palm Treo Pro is up to 100 MB, while the RAM is 128MB. The whole thing will feed on a huge 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery.
Palm Treo Pro is expected to hit the shelves in Europe in September at about 375 euro (549 US dollars) before taxes or subsides. The Treo Pro availability will then expand to other markets worldwide.

HTC Touch Diamond gets GSM 850MHz with a custom ROM update

GSM 850MHz band is now unlocked for use on the HTC top-of-the-shelf Touch Diamond. Obviously hardware support for that 850MHz band has already been implemented in the device but has been put dormant.
Today should be a happy day for all our overseas Diamond-loving friends. By default the Touch Diamond is only tri-band with a North American version still pending. Well, officially – it’s a done deal since an unofficial Radio ROM (the software part of any PocketPC that’s in charge of wireless communications) is now available for download, which turns the hot Diamond into an even hotter gem.
Yeah, we also can’t figure out why HTC crippled their own device but hey – we couldn’t get their point in the video drivers issues in their previous generation of devices either.
If only something could have been done about the 3G frequencies too the Touch Diamond would had become a truly world-worthy device, but let’s not get carried away.
Furthermore the new ROM is said to improve the battery life and increase the signal strength of the Diamond. The precious Diamond just got all the sweeter, didn’t it?
