Operation Market Garden was a bid to destroy Nazi Germany before Christmas, 1944.
The plan was ambitious – it was the largest airborne invasion in the history of the world. They planned to capture a corridor through Holland to punch through the German lines. Paratroopers of the 101st Airborne and other divisions dropped from the sky in mid-September to seize and hold the corridor by surprise. The surprise attack was a bust. Hitler’s best units were in the area and immediately counter-attacked and crushed the corridor. To the Allied paratroopers who fought there and lost brothers in arms, the corridor became known as Hell’s Highway.
It was the last great Nazi victory. It was hell for Sgt. Baker and his squad.

    Holy origin story, Batman!

The Caped Crusader’s No. 2 is stepping out from the shadows of his Gotham-saving friend and into the limelight, with the CW announcing plans for The Graysons, a pilot centering on comicdom’s top sidekick, Robin, in his pre-Bat-partnering days.
The Boy Wonder-centric show will follow Dick “DJ” Grayson before he donned the cape, according to Variety, much like Smallville centers on a pre-Superman Clark Kent.
The hourlong series, which will be set in present day, will follow Grayson as he navigates through family dramas, first loves and rivals.
There’s no word yet on whether the show will follow the mythology of the character set forth in the DC Comics franchise, in which Grayson was part of a family acrobat act dubbed the Flying Graysons and later orphaned when his parents’ trapeze equipment was sabotaged by some ne’er-do-wells.

Homer Simpson is gunning for you, Matt Dillon.
The writing staff keeps track of the longevity milestones, executive producer Al Jean says, but creator Matt Groening only cops to one record for the iconic Springfield family, its friends and neighbors. “I think we’ve used more yellow paint than any other TV show,” he says.
Both believe the show is still performing strongly despite recording 445 episodes, including a season premiere that has Homer and neighbor Ned Flanders teaming as bounty hunters and Marge Simpson unwittingly going to work at an erotic bakery. “The writers and animators continue to amaze me,” Groening says.
He has proof of the show’s staying power, too: its 10th Emmy for outstanding animated series, bestowed this month.

An encounter with some (former) fans may have left Kid Rock feeling a little punchy, but it also left his onetime worshippers more than a little litigious.
The trio of autograph seekers who first filed a $15 million suit against the Detroit rap-rocker in March over a 2006 skirmish at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel have amended their complaint, adding additional claims of assault and battery and clarifying allegations of negligence against Rock and his cohorts.
In the new version of the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, Michael Medlin, Carlos Bonilla and Jose Perez say they were punched and left licking their wounds in front of the hotel-based Teddy’s nightclub following a run-in with Rock, his entourage and and members of the Boo-Yaa Tribe.
“Kid Rock himself owed a duty to [the men] to ensure that his own actions, and the actions of those he had control over, such as friends, security, entourage and others associated with him, would do nothing to cause injury to foreseeable persons such as plaintiffs,” states the revised suit.
The complaint claims Rock’s security detail, which had “undertaken a duty to ensure that others would not be unreasonably harmed by their activities,” but ultimately “failed in their duties.”
